Nicholls State University (NSU) has a long history of successful football coaches who have led the team to numerous victories. Here are some notable coaches who have worked with the NSU football team:
Manning "Hoss" Garrett: Manning "Hoss" Garrett served as head coach from 1970 to 1978. He was responsible for leading the team to their first-ever conference championship in 1975.
Benny Ellender: Benny Ellender was a coaching legend at NSU. He served as head coach from 1980 to 1988 and again from 1990 to 1994. Ellender led the team to three conference championships and four playoff appearances.
Mark Hutson: Mark Hutson was the head coach from 1995 to 2000. He led the team to their first-ever playoff victory in 1998.
Jay Thomas: Jay Thomas served as head coach from 2012 to 2017. He led the team to a Southland Conference Championship in 2017, and he was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year.
Tim Rebowe: Tim Rebowe is the current head coach of the NSU football team. He took over in 2015 and has since led the team to two Southland Conference Championships (2018 and 2019) and two playoff appearances. Rebowe was also named Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019.
